Relational Model and Relational Database:
Relational model:
The relational model is the conceptual basis of relational databases.

It is an approach to managing data using a structure and language consistent with first-order predicate logic, first described in 1969 by Edgar F. Codd.

A database organized in terms of the relational model is a relational database.

The purpose of the relational model is to provide a declarative method for specifying data and queries: users directly state what information the database contains and what information they want from it, and let the database management system software take care of describing data structures for storing the data and retrieval procedures for answering queries.

Relational database:
A relational database is a collection of data items organized as a set of formally-described tables from which data can be accessed or reassembled in many different ways without having to reorganize the database tables.

The relational database was invented by E. F. Codd at IBM in 1970.

The standard user and application program interface to a relational database is the structured query language (SQL).

The definition of a relational database results in a table of metadata or formal descriptions of the tables, columns, domains, and constraints.
In a relational database, all data are stored and accessed via relations. Relations that store data are called "base relations", and in implementations are called "tables". Other relations do not store data, but are computed by applying relational operations to other relations.
