Object repository is the heart of the tool in which the references of the objects are stored.
Without object repository tool unable to identify the object.
It works as the interface between QTP and the application.
The Object Repository is of two types:Local Object Repository,Shared Object Repository.

1)Manage all the objects for a suite of tests or components in one central location
2)Simple and easy to identify the objects.
3)Highlight capability makes easier to Cross check.
4)More efficient.
5)Easily maintain your tests or components when an object in your application changes.
6)If it stores with logical name of the object,it is extremely easy to maintain the OR file.
7)Modern scripting tools allows to modify the OR file separately.

1)It consumes too much of memory when it is loaded and it will increase the execution time.
2)The OR files are private to the scripts. So concurrent update to the file is not possible.
3) If you want to run in object update mode this is not possible. Because share object repository is in the read only mode in object repository Window.
4)It became overhead while developing large projects.
5)If add objects to one of the split actions, the new objects are added only to the corresponding action object repository.
6)Object conflict may occur when adding individual OR files.
7)If the size of Object repository increases too much then it decreases the performance of QTP while recognizing an object.

Object Repository is a collection of object and properties with which QTP will be able to recognize the objects and act on it. When a user records a test, the objects and its properties are captured by default.
