Backlinks are the external links from different websites pointing to your website. But all the backlinks are not same, some are important while others not. Generally two types of backlinks are there.
Do follow Backlinks:
1)Dofollow links allow all search engines to follow them and reach our website. It helps in link building.
2)This is the type of backlinks which increase page rank and also increase traffic to your site.
3)It is used for Relevant content,Content that is useful for visitors and Internal links,High quality websites (like Google blog).
4)It is a type of link which has a potential to improve the ranking and the credibility of your website in Google.
5)Passes the link juice(Link Juice is the amount of positive ranking factors that a link passes from one page to the next).
6)Benefit of website's high PR.
7)Consider the link as trusted.
8)Google follow these links.

Example:
Code:
<a href=”http://www.thequotes.net/”>Motivational Quotes</a>
OR
<a href=”http://www.thequotes.net/” rel=”dofollow”>Motivational Quotes</a>
OR
<a href=”http://www.thequotes.net/” rel=”external”>Motivational Quotes</a>

No follow Backlinks:
1)The nofollow backlinks increase only the traffic to your site and does not increase your page rank in search engine.
2)This is basically a link that does not pass on the SEO benefits of the source site to the blog where the link points to.
3)It is used for Irrelevant content,Affiliate links,Comments,Advertising,Footer links,In comments section as we do not have any control on it and Sponsored links.
4)These are not important in terms of search engines as it is not crawled.
5)Don't pass the juice.
6)You don't get benefit of the website's high PR.
7)Consider the link as non trusted.
8)Google don't follow these links.

Example:
Code:
<a href=”http://www.thequotes.net/” rel=”nofollow”>Motivational Quotes</a>
OR
<a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://www.thequotes.net/”>Motivational Quotes</a>
OR
<a href=”http://www.thequotes.net/” rel=”external nofollow”>Motivational Quotes</a>

You can find these links, In Mozilla and Chrome, just right click the link you want to check and select Inspect Element in the menu. As you select it a window will open in the bottom of the browser with a highlighted link with complete html code.
